Bluebell Class - Year 1 and Year 2
Mrs R Gray
PE Days
Our class PE days will be Tuesday & Thursday. Children will need to come wearing a suitable PE kit with any earrings removed. Thank you.
About the Class
Bluebell Class is located near the main entrance to school, just off the KS1 assembly hall. It is a mixed age class with both Year 1 and Year 2 children. Working in Bluebell’s this year we have one teaching assistant - Ms Calvert who works with us all week.
Topic
We have lots of exciting activities planned for the first half of the autumn term! Our new topic is geography based and we will learn about aerial maps, how to make a classroom map and the geographical features that make up our school. The children will explore and experiment with different ways to make lines in our art lessons and our science work will be on the seasons and how they change during the year. Our music lessons will be about finding the pulse and in RE we will learn about different beliefs in our community. In our English lessons we will be writing our own story based on Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.
As well as our topics we will be working on Maths lessons daily along with phonics, spelling, Computing, PE and PSHE. Where possible we will try and link our topic to all our sessions. All the children will have access to continuous provision to enhance their learning experience and build on from their learning journey in Year 1.
We have an outdoor area that is used all year round so please send children with suitable outdoor wear so they can access this provision. Thank you.
Class Dojo
Please make sure you have signed up to class dojo so you can see any messages or information we post about the class on there.
Homework
Maths tasks will be sent home when appropriate. Spellings will be sent weekly and follow the Little Wandle phonics scheme. All children will also have a logon for Numbots and Timetables Rockstars, which they can access at home for extra maths activities. Each child has a username that is placed in their planner. There is also the White Rose Maths App which they can use for free too. We would like all children in Year 2 to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times table off by heart.
The children will all continue to bring home a reading book and we ask that you sign their planners to let us know if they have finished the book or what page they have read up to. We are keen to develop fluency so we like to encourage children to re-read their books before changing them. We ask that children read at home at least three times a week. All children will be heard 3 times a week in school as part of our reading offer. Our Year 1 children will be heard 3 times a week in school as part of our Little Wandle group reading sessions.
Clubs
Extra curricular activities will be sent out to parents in due course.
Snack Time
If your child has milk through the ‘Cool Milk’ scheme then they will have this at playtime. Children can bring a water bottle to school and we kindly ask that it only contains water. In KS1 we have fruit for the children daily but they may bring a fruit snack from home should they wish.
