''Respect, challenge, enquiring mind and confident''

FS2 / YR1 Blossoms

Hello and welcome to Blossom Class! My name is Miss Butterfield and I’m delighted to be the class teacher for this wonderful group of Reception and Year One children.

Blossom Class is a nurturing, engaging and inclusive environment where every child is encouraged to grow, thrive and blossom in their own unique way. As a mixed-age class, we follow both the Development Matters framework for our Reception children and the National Curriculum for our Year One learners, ensuring that each child receives the appropriate support and challenge for their stage of development.

Through play-based learning, hands-on experiences and structured activities, we aim to inspire curiosity, build confidence and foster a lifelong love of learning. We look forward to an exciting year filled with exploration, creativity, and joyful learning adventures!

Autumn 1 in Blossom Class

As we begin a brand new school year, we are so excited for our learning journey to begin. During this first half term, we will be spending lots of time settling in, exploring our new environment and getting to know one another. Our Reception children will also be completing their Reception Baseline Assessments within the first two weeks, helping us to understand how best to support their learning journey.

Our theme this half term is All About Me. We’ll be thinking about who we are, what makes us special, and learning all about our families, friends and the community around us. This topic provides a lovely opportunity for children to share their own experiences, celebrate differences and develop a strong sense of belonging.

Celebrating the world around us is always at the heart of our learning. As we move through the term, the children will begin to notice the signs of the changing seasons, particularly as the autumn equinox approaches. We’ll be observing and discussing the changes we see in nature and enjoying lots of autumnal exploration.

We’ll also be taking part in some exciting celebrations and festivals, including Harvest Festival, Diwali, and Halloween - learning about their meanings and the different ways people celebrate them in our community and around the world.

We’re looking forward to a fun, busy and joyful Autumn term.

Important Information for Blossom Class

All updates, reminders and key messages for Blossom Class will be shared via our Class Dojo page. Please make sure you are connected so you don’t miss anything!

In the meantime, here are a few essential bits of information to help things run smoothly:

  • Reading at Home:
We encourage children to read at home a minimum of three times per week. Please record all reading in your child’s planner, as this helps us support their progress in school.

  • Labelling Belongings:
Please ensure all of your child’s belongings are clearly labelled, including water bottles, clothing, and lunchboxes. This makes it much easier for us to return items and ensure everything goes home each day.

  • Weather-Appropriate Clothing:
We value outdoor learning in all weathers, so it’s important your child comes to school prepared. Please send them in with:

    • A raincoat and wellies for wet days

    • A warm coat as the weather gets colder

    • Sun hats and sun cream in warmer months

  • PE Days:
Our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. On these days, children should come to school wearing their PE kit.

  • Mention Assembly:
Every Friday, we have a whole school Mention Assembly. Parents are warmly invited to attend. If your child has been chosen for a mention that week, you will be notified via Class Dojo.

  • Parent Agreement:
Please remember to sign the Parent Agreement in the front of your child’s planner. This helps us work together to support your child throughout the year.

Thank you for your support - working together helps us create the best possible experience for the children in Blossom Class! Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.
