Buttercups - Foundation Stage 2

Miss Butterfield

🌼 Welcome to Buttercup Class! 🌼

Hello and a very warm welcome to Buttercup Class!

My name is Miss Butterfield, and I feel very lucky to be the teacher of this lovely group of little learners. Buttercup Class is a place where curiosity is encouraged, questions are celebrated and every child is given the opportunity to grow in their own unique way. We believe that some of the most wonderful learning happens through play, exploration, conversation and those little moments of discovery that happen throughout the day.

Our classroom is a calm, caring and nurturing space where children are encouraged to become confident, independent and resilient learners. We want our children to feel safe to have a go, make mistakes, try again and, most importantly, enjoy coming to school each day.

As a mixed class, our learning is carefully planned to provide the right balance of support, challenge and independence for every child. We build on what children already know, follow their interests and create opportunities for them to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding through both adult-led learning and purposeful play.

At the heart of everything we do is our belief "strong roots, bright future". 🌱 We want to nurture children's confidence, creativity, kindness and love of learning from the very beginning, helping them to develop the strong foundations they need for their future.

🍂 Autumn 1 in Buttercup Class

What an exciting start we have had to our year!

Our first half-term is all about settling in, building relationships and getting to know our new classroom, our routines and one another. For our Reception children, this is a particularly special time as they begin their very first chapter of school life. They will also complete their Reception Baseline Assessments during the first few weeks, helping us to understand their individual starting points and how we can best support their learning.

Our theme this half-term is ✨ Marvellous Me! ✨

We will be exploring the wonderful things that make each of us unique and special. We’ll be talking about our families, friendships, homes, feelings, interests and the things we enjoy. Through stories, conversations, creative experiences and play, we will be developing a strong sense of identity, belonging and community.

We’ll also be thinking about our bodies and how we can look after ourselves, making links with healthy choices, exercise, personal care and our emotions.

Autumn provides us with so many opportunities to step outside and notice the little changes happening around us. 🍁 We’ll be looking closely at the changing seasons, exploring nature, collecting treasures, noticing autumn colours and talking about how our world changes as the days become cooler and darker.

Throughout the half-term, we will also enjoy learning about Harvest, Black History Month and Halloween, discovering stories, traditions, people and celebrations from our own community and the wider world.

We are looking forward to a half-term full of stories, songs, muddy adventures, creative discoveries, wonderful conversations and lots of little “wow!” moments. 🌼

🌿 Learning Through Play

Play is a very important part of life in Buttercup Class.

Our provision is carefully planned to give children opportunities to explore, investigate, create, imagine, problem-solve and practise new skills independently. You may find us building, painting, counting, writing, pretending, exploring outdoors, sharing stories or simply following a fascinating question that has popped into a child's mind!

We believe in giving children the time and space to become independent little learners. We encourage them to have a go for themselves, make choices, solve problems and know where to look when they get stuck.

Our classroom motto is:

“If you’re stuck, know where to look!” 🌱

We hope to nurture children who are curious, capable and confident enough to think, “I can have a go!”

📚 Important Information for Buttercup Class

🏡 Class Dojo

All important updates, reminders, photographs and little glimpses into our learning will be shared through our Buttercup Class Dojo page. Please make sure you are connected so that you don't miss anything!

📖 Reading at Home

Reading together at home is one of the loveliest ways you can support your child's learning. We encourage children to share their reading book at home regularly and to enjoy plenty of books for pleasure too.

Our aim is to help children develop a genuine love of stories, books and reading because there is nothing quite like getting lost in a wonderful story. 💛

🏷️ Please Label Belongings

Please make sure that all belongings are clearly labelled, including coats, jumpers, water bottles, lunchboxes and PE kits. With lots of little Buttercups moving around our classroom each day, this makes finding their way home much easier!

☔ Outdoor Learning

We love learning outdoors and believe there is so much to discover beyond the classroom walls!

Please ensure your child comes to school with weather-appropriate clothing, including a waterproof coat and suitable footwear when the weather is wet and muddy. As the seasons change, warm coats, hats and other cosy layers are also important.

🤸 PE

Our PE day is every Tuesday.

Children should come to school wearing their school PE kit on Tuesdays.

🌟 Special Mention Assembly

We celebrate our children's achievements and wonderful moments through our whole-school Special Mention Assembly each Friday. If your child has been chosen for a special mention, you will be notified via the school office.

🌼 A Little Note from Miss Butterfield

Thank you for trusting us with such an important part of your child's journey.

The beginning of school is filled with so many little firsts. First friendships, first stories, first sounds, first independent choices and the first moments of discovering “I can do it!”

We are so excited to watch our Buttercups grow throughout the year, celebrating every small step, every new discovery and every moment of progress along the way.

Here's to a year filled with kind hearts, curious minds, muddy knees, wonderful stories and lots of learning adventures. 🌱✨

Welcome to Buttercup Class - we are so glad you’re here! 🌼
