February 2024

Dear Parents,

This Thursday, 8th February, we will be hosting a Non-Uniform Day at Sunnyfields. It's an opportunity for the children to express themselves and have some fun outside of the usual school uniform.

On this day, pupils are encouraged to wear clothing that makes them feel happy and comfortable. This includes anything from their favourite t-shirts to colourful dresses or jeans. We want to see their creativity shine through.

But that's not all! In addition to their outfits, pupils are welcome to express themselves through their hair, makeup and nails. Whether it's funky hairstyles, make-up or brightly coloured nails, we want the children to feel free to be themselves.

To participate in this special day, we kindly ask for a contribution of £1 per child.

This contribution will go towards funding future events and activities that enrich the educational experience of all our children.

We believe that Non-Uniform Day is not only a chance for the children to have fun and express themselves but also an opportunity for our school community to come together and support one another.

Thank you for your cooperation and support. We look forward to seeing all the creative outfits and expressions on Thursday!

Many thanks,

Mr Crosby.

Road Closure Day - 23rd June

Our Road Closure Day was a huge success with Doncaster Council saying that it was the best turnout from a school that they have ever seen, go team Sunnyfields!!

We had our Walking Bus from Heron Foods on Amersall Road, we had Modeshift Stars handing out a free Active Travel Breakfast and even Living Streets mascot, Strider made an appearance. So many children and their families joined on by either walking, drive and stride, cycling or scootering to school and the sun was shining.

SUEZ Awards £15,000 to environnement projets making a difference in Doncaster

The SUEZ Doncaster Environment Fund has awarded 12 Doncaster community groups their share of £15,000 for local environmental projects.

Doncaster organisations were invited to apply to the SUEZ Doncaster Environment Fund for projects that improve the local natural environment, reduce waste and increase recycling. The Fund is run by SUEZ who are employed by City of Doncaster Council to collect and process the borough’s recyclable material.

A judging panel made up of representatives from SUEZ and City of Doncaster Council met in February to review the applications and make the awards.

Twelve projects in total were awarded funding, including:

  • Sunnyfields Primary School received £675.00 to launch the next phase of its Christmas Tree project which will focus on maintaining the Christmas trees planted last year, purchasing equipment to assist with tree growth and using the project to teach families about the role that trees play in protecting our natural environment.

The Woodland Trust

Here at Sunnyfields we are working hard to protect the environment by looking after and adding to our amazing Woodland area. Thanks to our children, their families, staff and volunteers from the community, we have been able to make space for 105 tree saplings (including field maple, rowan, silver birch, wild cherry, sessile oak and grey willow) that were donated to us by The Woodland Trust.

The Woodland Trust are aiming to get 500 million carbon-locking trees in the ground by 2025 as part of their #BigClimateFightBack campaign which Sunnyfields are very proud to be a part of.

We are working towards achieving our Platinum Green Tree School award from The Woodland Trust by getting the children involved in some fantastic activities and earning points.

By planting the trees we achieved our first award (bronze)then thanks to some amazing outdoor work done by Meekats we have achieved our second award (silver).
