Mixed Class and Single Age Admission Policy

The school has both single aged classes and mixed age classes. The school has therefore established criteria to place the children in classes. The criteria are set out below;

Foundation Stage

On entering Foundation Stage 2 the children will be taught in parallel classes, which follow the same topics and learning objectives.

Key Stage 1

Children will be taught in three classes in the academic year 2016-2017. These will consist of a Year 1 class, a mixed Year 1 /2 class and a Year 2 class. On splitting the children between the classes the school will look at their month of birth and the amount of children in both year groups. Account will be taken for those children with special educational needs to ensure their requirements are met accordingly. The older Year 2 children will be placed in the Year 2 class and the younger Year 2 children will be placed in the mixed age class. Similarly, the older Year 1 children will be in the mixed age class and the younger Year 1 children in the Year 1 class. All classes will follow the same topics and learning objectives taken from the National Curriculum.

Key Stage 2

Children will be taught in five classes in the academic year 2016-2017. These will consist of a Year 3 class, a mixed Year 3/4 class, a mixed Year 4/5 class, a mixed Year 5/6 class and a Year 6 class. On splitting the children between the classes the school will look at their month of birth and the amount of children in year groups. Account will be taken for those children with special educational needs to ensure their requirements are met accordingly. The younger Year 3 children will be placed in the Year 3 class and the older Year 3 children placed in the mixed age class. The younger Year 4 children will be placed in the mixed Y3/4 class and the older Year 4 children will be placed in the mixed Y4/5 class. The younger Y5 children will be placed in the mixed Year 4/5 class and the older Year 5 children will be placed in the Year 5/6 class. The same criteria will be used in Year 6. All classes will follow the same topics and learning objectives taken from the National Curriculum to match their academic year. Teaching will be age appropriate.

Standards of teaching, learning and expectation will be consistent in all classes and will be monitored regularly by the Senior Leadership Team.

Classes will be set by the school and will not be subject to any change..
